Kainuu - for Datacentres
"A secure and sustainable location with access to established European markets and the gateway to emerging Eastern European and Asian markets."
Kajaani is located in central Finland in the region of Kainuu, bordering Russia in the east. Today, Kajaani is proposing itself as the ideal location in Northern Europe for sustainable Data centre Operations. As a location, it has existing infrastructure perfectly positioned for Data centre business. So much so that the Finnish Government has chosen to locate its new Super Computer Data Centre on a UPM site that used to house a paper mill, due to go live in Q3 2012. The Super Computer project is due to establish the world's 1st zero-emissions Super Computer, utilising the local environment in terms of 100% non-mechanical cooling (water and/or air resources). The Finnish government is working with the Green Grid and others to open up and share best practice of design, build and operation to maximise energy efficiency, adhering to similar objectives as the Open Compute programme.
The challenge of managing IT complexity demands a constant flow of new ideas and innovative solutions. The cost of energy, use of sustainable technologies, provisioning for expansion, security and connectivity, all feature highly in creating forward strategies for owned or outsourced data centres. Data centre location remains a critical issue in the IT decision making process, and this event is designed for both investors, and outsourcers to third party data centres.
